Lane Cove Physiotherapy Gym Rehab

Returning to work, sports or even just a pain free normal life after suffering an injury can be a time consuming and difficult process. It is not uncommon for people to feel like it is a case of one step forward, two steps back during the rehabilitation phase of injury management and pain and mobility can fluctuate from session to session and day to day. At Lane Cove Physio we understand orthopaedic and injury rehabilitation, with our musculoskeletal experts having been through years of training and an ongoing process of continual learning to make sure we bring the best outcomes for our clients. If your goal is to improve your strength, lose weight and recover from an injury in the best possible fashion, you will find our individually tailored exercise programs run at our purpose built rehabilitation gym get you to your goals faster.

What is a rehab gym?

Our purpose built rehab gym is not like your run of the mill gym. Our gym is focussed around recovery from injury, pain or a condition, or prevention of injuries and pain. We specialise in rehab and prehab and every piece of equipment is designed to serve a distinct section of your recovery. Our rehab gym staff include a specialist sports and exercise physiotherapist, physiotherapists with knowledge and passion for exercise and an exercise physiologist. Our rehab gym caters to pregnant mums or mums to be, offering Clinical Pilates and exercise programs and for pre and post natal mums and their young children. We also have hydrotherapy and aquatic therapy for pregnancy as well as a women’s health physiotherapist with vast experience in pre and post natal care.

What does a gym rehabilitation program involve?

At your first visit with a Lane Cove Physio you will be taken through a comprehensive consultation which allows for a full physical assessment, goal setting, baseline measurements and the development of your personally tailored Gym Rehabilitation Program, specific to your needs and goals. After this we will be able to outline the various factors influencing your recovery, allowing us to develop an individual exercise program to reflect those factors, aiding your recovery further. All of our tailored gym rehab programs include continual re-assessment and modification to ensure you have optimal return to a full and healthy life and that your goals are being consistently met.

Without guided and proper rehabilitation your body will not be able to self-regulate injury recovery and a decrease in physical performance is likely to occur. When this happens you lengthen the period of recovery and increase your chances of having ongoing pain or issues from your original injury that could be avoided. With our guidance you can optimise your recovery from injury and return to your normal life, whether that means work, sports or a combination of both!

What gym rehab programs are offered at our Lane Cove centre?

Our gym offers patients the latest gym equipment including orthopaedic treadmill, exercise bike, and has 2 ergonomic multi station weight machines including leg press, pilates reformer, free weights, squat rack and swiss balls. We offer custom made rehabilitation programs for a wide variety of conditions including:

  • Joint Surgery

This includes joint replacement surgery, reconstructions of the knee/shoulder/hip joint and tendon tissue repair and many other conditions in between.

  • Back and neck injuries

Back and neck injuries are among the most difficult to fully recover from, often taking people months, if not years to reach their full physical levels of fitness and health. Whether you are recovering from a bulging disc, surgery, sciatica, or chronic pain and flexibility issues we know exactly what you’re going through.

  • Sporting or work related injuries

Overuse and repetitive injuries are on the rise; did you know that tennis elbow is now more likely to be suffered by a computer programmer than a tennis player? Our physiotherapists are experts in identifying, treating and rehabilitating all kinds of injuries such as stress fractures, overuse injuries, sprains, muscle tears and strains.

  • Accidents

Injuries resulting from car accidents and other random events often leave a lasting and painful reminder. Our gym rehabilitation programs have been used by people recovering from complex fractures, broken bones and even acquired brain injuries.

WHY PREHAB IS IMPORTANT FOR IMPROVING RECOVERY AFTER SURGERY

Pre-surgical rehabilitation or prehab for short is the concept that’s going to get your body into the best shape it can be in before your surgery. Better in, better out. A well designed pre surgery body strengthening regime can shave weeks of time and pain off your post-surgical recovery. In fact, the physical shape your affected area is in is one of the strongest predictors of the chances of a fully successful recovery. It is likely that you have pain and weakness operating in tandem leading up to surgery, but you’re going to need every ounce of strength you’ve got to recover fully. In prehab your local physio will help you build strength and stability where you need it most to ensure you get the most out of your rehabilitation.

Make sure you find yourself a local musculoskeletal physiotherapist with access to state of the art gym and functional training capabilities to give yourself the best chance of a full recovery.
